The worst advice ever given to Millennials was 'Follow your passion and you'll never work a day in your life.' It resulted in a generation of burnt-out baristas with screenwriting degrees.

Passion is volatile. It changes. It is a terrible foundation for a 40-year macro strategy. Instead, follow your *competence*. Follow your *energy*.

What feels like work to others but feels like play to you? That is your unfair advantage. If you can stare at spreadsheets for 10 hours without blinking, don't force yourself to be a graphic designer because you like art. Monetize the spreadsheet skill to fund the art hobby.

Competence creates value. Value creates money. Money buys freedom. Freedom allows you to pursue passion. Do not confuse the vehicle with the destination.
